□ WHO는 브라질 리우데자네이루에서 열리고 있는 '2024 글로벌 팬데믹 대비 정상회의'에 제출된 WHO의 「병원체 우선순위 : 전염병 및 팬데믹 연구 준비를 위한 과학적 프레임워크」 보고서는 코로나19처럼 전 세계를 보건 위기로 몰아넣을 감염병 대유행에 대비해 각국이 어떤 연구전략을 세워야 하는지를 담고 있음
- 이미 위험을 짐작할 수 있는 영역뿐 아니라 위험 평가가 안 이뤄진 병원체까지 광범위하게 연구하지 않으면 감염병X가 발발하는 상황에 신속하게 대처할 수 없다는 것이 보고서의 취지임
□ 보고서는 50여 개국 과학자 200여 명이 바이러스 28개와 그로부터 발생한 변이종까지 포함한 가계도를 평가해 추려낸 1천 652개의 병원체를 우선 연구대상으로 제시함
- 보고서는 이들 병원체의 전파 유형과 독성, 백신 여부, 치료제 가용성 등에 대한 정보 등을 놓고 연구를 가속할 것을 요청함
□ WHO는 각 병원체 집단별 연구 허브를 두고 함께 연구 작업을 진행하는 개방형 연구 협력 컨소시엄(CORC)을 꾸릴 것을 제안하기도 함
- WHO는 이 컨소시엄에 대해 “전 세계의 연구개발자와 투자자, 규제기관, 기타 전문가들이 협력하는 곳으로, 특정 병원체가 옮겨 다닐 가능성이 높은 지역 내 연구자들의 공정한 참여를 촉진하는 조직”이라고 소개함
