□ 보고서에 따르면, 빙하는 북극에서 유럽의 알프스, 남아메리카, 아시아의 티베트고원까지 대륙을 가리지 않고 모든 곳에서 녹아내림
- 이처럼 빙하가 빨리 녹아내리면 해수면이 상승해 많은 이들이 삶의 터전을 잃을 뿐 아니라 지구의 전체적인 물 순환 고리가 깨져 수십억 명이 식량난을 겪을 수 있다고 전문가들은 경고함
□ 보고서는 전 세계 관개 농업의 3분의 2가 빙하 유실의 영향을 받는 것으로 조사되었다고 밝힘
- 지금처럼 빙하가 예측불가능한 속도로 녹아내린다면 전 세계 인구 20억 명이 물과 식량 부족을 겪을 수 있다고 내다봄
- 또한 이러한 식량위기는 산악 지대와 개발도상국뿐만 아니라 미국 등 선진국에서도 발생할 수 있다고 경고함
