(2024년 세계 에너지 통계 리뷰)

□ 6월 20일(현지 시간) 영국의 에너지 전문기관 에너지연구소가 컨설팅업체 KPMG와 발표한 「세계 에너지 통계 리뷰」 보고서에 따르면 지난해 에너지 사용, 산업 공정, 소각 및 메탄 등으로 발생한 온실가스 배출량이 처음으로 40GT를 넘어섬. 이는 기존 최대치였던 2022년 배출량보다도 2.1% 증가한 것으로, 에너지 직접 사용에 따른 배출량도 처음으로 35GT을 초과한 것으로 나타남

□ 연소로 인한 배출량은 전년보다 7.0% 늘었으며, 산업 공정 및 메탄에서 발생한 이산화탄소도 전년보다 5.0% 이상 커짐

□ 이와 함께 지난해 전세계 1차 에너지 소비량은 620 엑사줄(에너지 단위, 1엑사줄=100경 줄)로, 역시 사상 최대치를 기록함. 1차 에너지는 석탄과 석유, 수력, 풍력, 태양광 등 자연 상태에서 직접 얻을 수 있는 에너지임. 1차 에너지 중 화석 연료 사용량은 505 엑사줄로 집계됐으며 이는 전년보다 1.5% 높은 수치임

□다만 전체 에너지 사용량에서 화석 연료가 차지하는 비중은 전년보다 0.5% 적은 8.1%로 조사됨. 청정에너지 사용의 증가로 화석 연료의 비중이 상대적으로 줄어든 것으로 분석됨
