□ 대륙별로는 아프리카의 기아 비율이 20.4%로 가장 많았으며, 그 다음 아시아(8.1%), 라틴 아메리카(6.2%), 오세아니아(7.3%)가 뒤를 이었고, 북미와 유럽의 기아 인구 비율은 2.5% 미만이었음
□ 보고서는 기아 인구가 2020년 6억 6930만 명, 2021년 7억 870만 명, 2022년 7억 2380억 명으로 매해 증가하고 있으며, 지난해 기아 인구가 코로나19 대유행 직전인 2019년(5억 8130만 명) 수준을 회복하지 못했다고 지적함
- 그 원인으로 전쟁과 경기 침체, 기후 위기 등이 꼽혔으며, 특히 러시아·우크라이나 전쟁으로 인해 식료품·에너지 가격이 급등하면서 기아가 늘어났다고 밝힘
- 내전 중인 남수단, 예멘, 시리아와 과도정부가 들어선 아이티에서도 극심한 수준의 식량 불안정에 처한 인구 비율이 높았음
□ 보고서는 이와 같은 불안 요소가 식량 불평등, 식료품 가격 상승, 건강에 해로운 식품이 유통되는 환경 등을 초래하고 있다고 분석함
- 기아 인구 증감 추세가 현 수준이라면 2030년을 목표로 잡은 '제로 헝거(굶주림 근절)' 실현 가능성이 작아진다고 경고함
